Career Development
General Construction has opportunities
for college students, recent graduates and experienced
professionals. Whether you are just starting out or looking to
expand your career, we encourage you to contact us at
gcc.careers@kiewit.com.
Training
General Construction is one of many
districts of the Kiewit Corporation and our employees receive
some of the best training in the industry. We know that the
success of our projects is determined by the success of our
people, therefore we are dedicated to their professional and
technical development.
The first few years of your career will
be on-the-job training; you will work with and alongside the
best in the industry. During that time you will have the
opportunity to take several district-level courses. These may
include marine training, new engineer training, estimating and
scheduling.
Additionally, Kiewit has developed
several quality, in-depth engineering and construction training
courses. They are the foundation of our training program and
provide the basis for future success. Courses are provided in
planning and scheduling, formwork and surveying. As employees
advance, they may be eligible for selection and participation in
programs such as Supervisory Conference, Superintendents’ School
and Management Seminar.
Internship Program
Our internship program gives students the
opportunity to gain real-world, hands-on experience while
working on current projects. Interns at General Construction are
provided the opportunity to work in one of a variety of
settings, dependent upon the student’s area of interest and the
company’s availability/need. Duties typically include many of
the same responsibilities as a beginning engineer, such as
quantity surveys, materials tracking, processing change orders,
updating schedules, etc. Many of our interns come to work for
General Construction full time following graduation.
Professional Certification or Registration
We encourage our employees to seek
professional certification and licensing as appropriate for
their career needs. Full-time employees will be reimbursed for
the cost of applying for and obtaining professional
certification or registration directly related to their duties
and position.
Educational Expense Reimbursement
Upon successful completion of accredited
coursework, employees will be reimbursed 75% of the cost for
books, tuition, and lab fees (up to an established amount)
associated with approved educational or vocational courses.
General Construction Company is an Equal
Opportunity Employer.
