General Construction was a participating Kiewit district in the rehabilitation project that included the replacement of two parallel single-leaf bascule bridges which remained operational throughout construction. General Construction began with demolition and installation of the east span of the bridge, restoration of piers and replacement of approaching roadways. Modifications to the west span and control/gate tender's house then took place, followed by demolition and installation of the west span, similar to that of the east span. All electrical, mechanic and structural work was included in this project.
